Thames Valley Cross Country League

Wargrave Runners have, for the first time, entered the Thames Valley Cross Country Series.  This involves 8 cross country races throughout the winter months, typically involving a run of approximately 8 km across various terrains.  Entries are limited to members of competing clubs, of which there are 12 taking part.  The first event took place on 30th October within woodlands at Ruislip, and Wargrave Runners put in a creditable performance with Dean Thatcher and Caroline Macaskill leading the mens and womens teams home respectively.  The next events take place at Eton on 13th November, then Sandhurst on 27th November and continue through to February.  The ideal winter preparation for next year’s Wargrave 10k, due to be held on Saturday 10th June 2012 !  There is no limit on the number of runners Wargarve Runners can enter in the cross country series, so if anyone is interested in taking part then find out more on the club website or email Andy Meader, who is co-ordinating Wargrave Runners entries.
You can see more details on the Thames Valley Cross Country website:

Well done all who ran Reading Half Marathon on Sunday

Another superb turnout from Wargrave, 24 runners and friends with times ranging from just 1:20 to 3:15. Many a personal best achieved here I think.

Particularly well done to Chris for being soooo quick and to Dean for recovering so well after last years injury scare to cover the course in just 1:30.  Also to a couple of half marathon virgins...Nora and Ali, well done both....not too many blisters I hope.

Results will be posted here in due course (failing with the technology) but if you want to search the results you can go to http://www.readinghalfmarathon.com/results11/results11.cfm

NEED ANOTHER TARGET...DONT FORGET MAIDENHEAD EASTER 10 (miles)

Good luck to all Reading Half Marathoners

Good luck to all Wargrave Runners taking part in the reading half tomorrow. Look out for Ali Bagshaw - his first ever half marathon - take it easy and enjoy it Ali!

[WR] NEWSFLASH - JAN 2011

HAPPY NEW YEAR and welcome to my first attempt at a mini Newsflash using the Website. Just one item for you to consider for now...more will follow I promise.
This is a gentle reminder about our series of "Gentle Runs" if you are new to running or want to ease back in "gently" the 2nd run will take place on Sunday 16th January, meeting 8:30am at the Rec.  The information, as formerly circulated, is below...do come and keep Andy company!  (The faster 8:15am run will continue as per usual)

  • One of the feedback responses we got from the Questionnaire was that a number of members are concerned that the regular runs will be a bit serious for them.  In order to address this we are proposing to lead 3 ‘gentle’ runs during January, after which it is hoped runners will have more confidence in joining some of the other groups, or will have met other people of a similar ability that they can go running with in the future.   The first of these will take place at 8.30am on Sunday 9th January from the Rec, and then same place same time for the following two Sundays.  The distance will be approximately 2 - 3 miles, and subject to conditions under foot will probably include some off road routes.  The pace can be adapted to suit those who turn up, but will probably take approx 30 minutes to complete.  Andy Meader will be leading the run and if you’ve got any queries in advance feel free to contact Andy at andy.meader@pegasuspg.co.uk

 As ever....Happy Running!!!
Helen
