Wargrave is a small village in central Berkshire, UK, midway between Reading and Maidenhead and 3 miles from Henley on Thames . Wargrave Runners came to life early in 1984 when 5 regular runners got together and decided to begin running as a group.

Those that formed the club had run many races, half marathons, marathons, etc., as individuals, but at the Reading Half Marathon of 1984 we entered our first official team of Wargrave Runners. We have continued to support, and run in, most local races over the last 25 years and have had at least 2 representatives in each London Marathon during that time. We have also taken part in a number of foreign events in New York, Amsterdam, Paris, Bordeaux, Boston etc.

Recent Race Results - April 2012

A busy couple of weeks on the racing front with Reading Half Marathon and Maidenhead Easter 10....Ooh and a rather special "Olympic Park" run. Congratulations to all who took part in these races, great to see so many of our members our there participating and indeed excelling.

Sarah Evans had a great race and Chris Moseley did exceptionally well having run in the National Lottery Olympic Park Run the previous day. Chris completed this 5 mile race in 29:47 and finished in 73rd place (out of about 5000 entrants) thus becoming the first Wargrave Runner to cross the finish line in the Olympic Stadium!

And at Maidenhead Easter 10: Charlie Langley did very well, apparently having run sub 1:15 in the Reading Half Marathon.

Dave Sayer also took part, finishing in 1:22:28. Tony and Mal Evans were marshalling and Dave Moseley, who had gone as a spectator, ended up helping at one of the marshalling positions Berkshire Champs:

Measured Mile on the Rec (Grass) - 25th September 2011

On Sunday afternoon we held our Autumn Mile on the Grass and were delighted with the enthusiasm shown, particularly by our younger runners. Also some very competitive spirit from the seniors. The running was followed by tea and cakes in the very smart new Cricket pavilion. Thanks you to everyone who made cakes, or marshalled on the day and also to our runners for taking part.

Results from our Measured Mile on 9th Sept 2011 - on the Road

I am delighted to report that we had a most enjoyable run on Friday night with a number of notable highlights in our diverse and select field of runners. Most notably Doris Eggett was our First Lady home (on handicap) and completed the course, on her birthday, in 14:46. This was a great achievement for a wonderful lady now well into her 9th decade. Well done Doris. Flowers were presented on the finish line with our very best wishes. At the other end of the scale Spike at just 20 months completed the course in 24:21 and collected a few Dandelions on the way! From such as start we will await great achievements in a few years time. Some wonderful running across the whole spectrum and well done to Chris Belton for sprinting home in 5:39 making him our fastest runner on the night.  Full results are on the News Update page, please log in or use the link I sent you.

Down Tow Up Flow - 24th July 2011
